About Us

Hi, I’m Michaela.

I graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in Neuroscience and Physiology and earned my master’s in Education at Harvard. Over roughly a decade of teaching, I worked in Boston public schools and at The Nueva School, ranked No. 1 in the nation for STEM. At Nueva, I taught biology and chemistry and served as 10th Grade Dean. I’ve also advised students pursuing admission to some of the most prestigious Ivy League universities.

I’ve experienced elite education from the inside. There is much to admire, but even at Nueva, I saw so many limitations. When it came to our own children, my husband, Ryan, and I wanted to build on the best of that experience without accepting its limitations as inevitable.

We started Skip School to pursue something much bigger: a world-class education that pushes the boundaries of what children can learn and do, while giving them the richest possible childhood. Intellectual challenge, deep friendships, freedom, adventure, and the joy of belonging together. That’s what we’re building for our children and the families growing alongside us.
