When a villain dismantled Santa's sleigh, our young engineers didn't just build a replacement—they grappled with gravity, momentum, and the unforgiving physics of a playground slide to deliver their cargo safely.

The challenge seemed simple enough: the holiday sleigh was dismantled, and the Solution Squad needed to engineer a replacement capable of carrying a heavy load of gifts down the steep park slide. But real materials have a way of resisting easy solutions. Tape peeled under tension, cardboard buckled under weight, and early prototypes tumbled spectacularly, scattering their cargo across the woodchips. As educators and parents, we had to resist the urge to step in and fix the structural flaws, letting the children feel the productive frustration of a design that didn't work on the first try.

Through trial, error, and shared observation, the kids began to understand physics not as abstract rules, but as forces to negotiate. They widened wheelbases, lowered centers of gravity, and reinforced joints. When a sleigh finally made a clean, high-speed run down the slide with its cargo intact, the celebration wasn't just about completing the mission—it was the quiet confidence of young designers who had argued with gravity and won.

Yet, as always at Skip School, the structured engineering challenge was merely the launchpad. Once the sleighs were tested, the afternoon dissolved into a beautiful, unscripted symphony of free play. Arthur proudly read a book about jingle bells, reciting the lyrics from memory, while Nora pushed Leo on the hammocks with all her strength. Nearby, Diana balanced confidently on a high beam, clutching her songbook, determined to memorize every word. We set the stage with a slide and some cardboard, but the children carried the day into a realm of joy and determination we could never have planned.
